The former President of the Constitutional Court of Korea, Lee, Kang-Kook, is visiting the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law to give a lecture on “The Past and the Future of Constitutional Adjudication in Korea” at Room 140, Boalt Hall, on February 21st at 4 p.m.
The lecture is open to the Korean community at large.  Two second-year law students at Berkeley Law School, Hailey You and Beatrice Na, will be translating his lecture from Korean to English.
After the lecture, Mr. Lee will be meeting with the Berkeley Law faculty members and students at an open reception hosted by the Robbins Collection.
He will also be meeting with the prominent attorneys and Korean community leaders in the Bay Area, as well as the justices at the Supreme Court of California in San Francisco during his visit.  President Lee’s trip will likely promote the Constitutional Court of Korea and facilitate exchange of ideas in the fields of law and government.
Around the world, a total of 84 countries including Korea have separate, independent constitutional courts.
The Constitutional Court of Korea was established in 1988 and its primary role is reviewing the constitutionality of the challenged laws.
Mr. Lee was appointed as the President of the Court in 2007 by President Roh Moo-hyun and has served as the President for six years, retiring on January 21st.
