It’s very easy to see how this can apply to our media culture of the day.

One can easily see how the hook and bait applies to the mass media.

TV executives green light a show that they think will be a hit.

They then pour hundreds of thousands of dollars in creating the said show, to hook the viewers in search of the almighty ad dollars.  The cycle continues.

But, with the democratization of technology along with the right content, you can send your message to the world, like a fisherman casting a net.

It is easier than ever to put a video, of a cat playing a keyboard for the world to see.

Depending how compelling, or in most cases not, the content is, the video can easily go viral, reaching millions of eyes and ears.  How do you reach those millions of willing eyeballs, then?

First, how do you create that content, that next viral video?

Everyone reading this article has a world class cinematography tool at their disposal: the smartphone.  Be it Apple’s iPhone, Samsung’s Galaxy, or other myriads of models currently available, these smartphones pack a world class camcorder, camera, and editing in a package no bigger than your wallet.

If you have purchased a digital camera in the last two, three years, you have a camcorder that would rival cinematic equipment unavailable to the general public even 5, 6 years ago.

There are TV Shows and movies being shot on DSLR cameras, such as the Canon 5D.

You can then, take that footage from your camera and your smartphone, and edit that on your tablet and smartphone.  With touch oriented interface, you can easily edit your movies and add appropriate music and content as you see fit.

Furthermore, with the proper accessories, you can record your own music and sound into your video.  All it takes is a bit of time to learn the craft, and apply that in a way that is appropriate for the tools at hand.
So, you’ve now created your masterpiece.

Now, how do you go about sharing that?

Social networks such as Twitter and Facebook have become the way to share.
A single share on Facebook will reach all of your friends instantly, globally.

Twitter, on the other hand, allows you to share your freshly minted content to the world instantly, if fleetingly.

Don’t despair, though. Even a single tweet, if the content is compelling, has the chance to become part of the zeitgeist of the Internet and its culture.

The only thing that you need to supply is the dedication and the passion to create and share that content.
Good luck and I’ll be watching.
